Reflection for today…No One Can Take Your Destined Lover -Italian Proverb & Goldfrapp

Have you ever reflected on the concept of soulmates?

Do they really exist?

Does life consist of destiny/fate or choices/free will?

Perhaps it is a mixture of both?

Something about this quote resonates with me. It feels true.

I heard a similar saying in Spanish {which I cannot remember right now}.

No one can take the one that is destined for you.

{The universe will unite you & this mysterious one eventually}.

What about fate itself?

Perhaps it is all a mental cul-de-sac?

For now, all I know is that we can relax and let life unfold naturally and organically.

Although the song’s true meaning is not related to soulmates, love or the quote mentioned above, its essence does.

The way that it makes me feel when I hear it reminds me of love, lovers and soul mates- especially when she sings,

“I forgot who I am when I’m with you.”

It alludes to one’s identity and ego dissolving in the presence of their beloved.

To me, that sounds powerful, esoteric and healing.

{Can you believe this song is twenty years old?

It sounds just as fresh and lovely as ever.

I deeply adore it}.

UTOPIA LYRICS

[Verse 1]
“It’s a strange day
No colours or shapes
No sound in my head
I forget who I am
When I’m with you
There’s no reason
There’s no sense
I’m not supposed to feel
I forget who I am
I forget

[Chorus]
Fascist baby
Utopia, utopia

[Verse 2]
My dog needs new ears
Make his eyes see forever
Make him live like me
Again and again

[Chorus]
Fascist baby
Utopia, utopia

[Bridge]
I’m wired to the world
That’s how I know everything
I’m superbrain
That’s how they made me

[Chorus]
Fascist baby
Utopia, utopia.”

“Utopia” is an epic, cinematic electronic song that heavily features Alison’s operatic vocals.”

On A Trip to Felt Mountain Alison explains what it is about:

“Utopia’s about genetics and cloning and the idea that – I mean, I’m not saying that this is right, but I’m playing with the idea that if we’re all striving to sort of be perfect and we want other people to look perfect, and we have this sort of body type that we’re supposed to aspire to, basically what I’m saying is that that is a form of fascism.”

Alison also commented on the song on Twitter during the lead-up to the release of The Singles:

“A story about an android born as a result of designer breeding in a utopian society. Feeling love for mortals is confusing for her.”

Reflection for today…The Karma Police -Buddha & Radiohead

9 Jan

“Don’t waste your time on revenge.

Those who hurt you

will eventually face their own karma.”

-Buddha

*

When someone has hurt you, betrayed you or done you wrong, revenge can be seductive.

I have never been in favour of revenge. I believe it would just lead to an endless cycle of further suffering, bitterness and future painful karma.

I prefer “living well as the best revenge” philosophy.

I have been reflecting on revenge because of recent events.

What I wonder is why aren’t those individuals that hurt us, betray us and do us wrong afraid of the karma police?

Karma Police

Radiohead

[Verse 2]
Karma police, I’ve given all I can
It’s not enough, I’ve given all I can
But we’re still on the payroll

[Chorus]
This is what you’ll get
This is what you’ll get
This is what you’ll get
When you mess with us

[Outro]
For a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself
Phew, for a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself
For a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself
Phew, for a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself
.”

Karma Police Department

“Thom Yorke {singer in Radiohead}: Karma is important. The idea that something like karma exists makes me happy. It makes me smile. Karma Police is dedicated to everyone who works for a big firm. It’s a song against bosses.”

Karma Police We Saw That

“Ed O’Brien: When someone in the band behaved like an a–hole, one of the others always said: ‘The Karma Police is gonna get you.’ I suppose it’s all rubbish that your destiny depends on your deeds in a previous life, but you have to trust on something.”

Karma Police This Is What You Get

“It was a band catch phrase for a while on tour – whenever someone was behaving in a particular s—ty way, we’d say, ‘The karma police will catch up with him sooner or later’,” guitarist Jonny Greenwood told Melody Maker. “You have to rely on something like that, even though we’re probably just kidding ourselves. But it’s not a revenge thing, just about being happy with your own behaviour.”
