Reflection for today…Buddhist Soulmate Test

Is meeting your soulmate like swimming in an ocean of spiritual tranquillity?

This reflection feels so refreshing to me because the concept of soulmates encountering each other usually involves feelings of anxiety.

I imagine feeling a profound sense of spiritual tranquillity upon meeting one’s soulmate.

I imagine it would be a relief to meet this person and it would feel like finding the last piece of a puzzle that you have been working on all of your life.

Instead of feeling anxiety, why not savour the mystery?

Listening to aqueous transmission makes me feel the spiritual peace that I am envisioning when meeting one’s soulmate.

Please enjoy Aqueous Transmission by Incubus…

90 Minute Long Extended Version…

“The final song, “Aqueous Transmission”, employs the use of Chinese instruments such as the pipa and is accompanied by a Japanese orchestra. The pipa used on the recording was given to Mike Einziger from Steve Vai.[3] “Aqueous Transmission” is 7 minutes and 46 seconds long, with the last-minute consisting of frogs croaking outside the studio in Malibu. Boyd jokingly said that the purpose of the song was to make “the listener pee in his/her pants” from relaxation.” Copied from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_View

“Lead singer Brandon Boyd: Perhaps our most ambitious work to date, was first conceived with an instrument quite alien to Incubus and all of rock music to be precise. A ‘Ko-kyu’ is what was used here and it was donated by a very generous and talented man by the name of Steve Vai. One late evening we began conjuring and experimenting with this track and it quickly brought to mind the image and analogy of floating freely down a river; hence the content of the song. Our friend Suzi Katayama, who has in the past worked string arrangements with the likes of Björk, Madonna and even Yours Truly for an acoustic performance in LA, lent her classical finesse to this story. And in doing so helped it become exactly what we envisioned; a song so atmospheric and vibratory, it would make those who listened to it doze off into a land of rivers, kung fu and unicorns, eventually making the listener pee in her/his pants. (Attainable goals I think, but please don’t operate any heavy machinery while listening to this one).”

“The noises at the end are thousands of frogs that were recorded outside the Malibu mansion where Incubus recorded Morning View. It wasn’t easy to get the sound – every time they’d come out to record, the frogs would shut up.” Copied and pasted from https://www.songfacts.com/facts/incubus/aqueous-transmission

“The final track from the album, it is a serene and enveloping piece. The tones of the Chinese pipa contrast with the strings in the background. Add to this the mellow Shakuhachi interludes and the ambient sounds and it is the perfect track for laying back and drifting down the river that the lyrics describe.” Copied and pasted from https://www.last.fm/music/Incubus/_/Aqueous+Transmission/+wiki

A Sophisticated Quietude

By using elements such as rocks, streams, ponds, and islands interleaved with dense vegetation, Japanese gardens recreate the world in miniature. To the observer, they are a beauty for the eye, and for the ears!

Enjoy spending a quiet afternoon in our Japanese Garden, while a gentle breeze caresses bamboo leaves and a solitary wind chime. In the distance, you hear the rumble of a distant waterfall. Closer to you, the cicadas remind you that the summer just started.

This soundscape has been made possible thanks to the kind contribution of Daniel Mills, a fan of myNoise who lives in Japan. Among the various recordings collected, one in particular deserves a special attention: the sound of a Shishi-Odoshi, an ingenious device made of bamboo, which literally translates as ‘Deer Scarer’. The Shishi-Odoshi works from the water of a fountain to create a sharp sound, and is used as a scarecrow. It is often associated with meditational environments too, and serves as a slow paced timer.

Aqueous Transmission

Incubus

Produced by Scott Litt & Incubus

Album Morning View

[Verse 1]
“I’m floating down a river
Oars freed from their holes long ago
Lying face up on the floor of my vessel
I marvel at the stars and feel my heart overflow

[Chorus]
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river

[Verse 2]
Two weeks without my lover
I’m in this boat alone
Floating down a river named emotion
Will I make it back to shore or drift into the unknown

[Chorus]
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river

[Verse 3]
I’m building an antenna
Transmissions will be sent when I am through

Maybe we could meet again further down the river
And share what we both discovered then revel in the view

[Chorus]
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river

[Outro]
I’m floating down a river
I’m floating down a river
I’m floating down a river
I’m floating down a river
I’m floating down a river
I’m floating down a river
I’m floating down a river
I’m floating down a river.”

My Dark Metamorphosis…

17 Oct

Hello again old friends…

It has been two years since I posted anything on this blog. I have been wanting to post something on this blog for such a long time. I had a wealth of ideas marinating in my mind yet I did not end up translating them into action.

What happened to me? I lost my confidence and to some extents my vitality. It seems that the longer you are away from writing or any other creative pursuit, the more you seem to lose your confidence as you criticize and doubt yourself.

Life has put me to the test in a myriad of different ways. I have often felt like the biblical Job who was rigorously tested by God. I felt like the tide had swept me under an abyss and in a way I lost myself. Like Alice in Wonderland, I ended up lost with only my intuition as my compass.

Despite all the spiritual darkness that I have been through, I feel as though my absence from this blog has been a time of tremendous self exploration and spiritual growth. Lately, I finally feel that I am slowly coming out of this darkness and am stronger than I have been.

Many blessings have come out of these dark days. I have had spiritual revelations and life epiphanies. My love of music and exercise has intensified more than ever. I have the deepest respect for both activities. Exercise helps me deal with life and its many challenges. Music is pure soul food and inspiration. The combination of exercising and listening to my music is so healing and relaxing.

I have been listening to so much of my beloved music. I am going to continue to feature it on this blog. I am going to continue to celebrate all of my favourite music, poetry, quotes, artists, films, t.v. shows, ideas, research, people, etcetera on this blog.

I am going to do some stream of consciousness posts because otherwise I will go into analysis paralysis and take too long to write anything. Also, the writing will be natural and organic because it is from the creative flow of my mind and whatever inspires me and haunts me. I am also going to work on all the blog posts saved in the drafts folder.

I have really missed having this blog. It is my passion project and creative outlet. I miss working on blog posts. My inquisitive mind loves doing research as I always learn from it. I love writing and editing. The most rewarding part of having this blog is reading your enlightening comments.

Thank you for still being here if you are. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to read here. I am open to requests.

Namaste, Love & Spiritual Light.

-V.
