“A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself- and especially to feel, or not feel.

Whatever you happen to be feeling at any moment is fine with them.

That’s what real love amounts to – letting a person be what he really is.”

-Jim Morrison

For this reflection, I had to use a clip from the brilliant comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Larry David’s and Richard Lewis’ friendship is based on brutal honesty. Only an authentic friendship can withstand the weight of such raw truth.

Perhaps the measure of a friendship is how much truth it can withstand.

Richard Lewis says, “we have enough good stuff in the bank to get over this.”

He is alluding to the history, friendship and mutual respect that they share.

They were both Brooklyn Jews with working-class parents, but they hated each other on sight. They became tight years later on the stand-up circuit, and David helped Lewis get his life back together when he quit drinking.”

Larry David’s and Richard Lewis’ friendship grows stronger with time…

Peace & Comedic Love…

Larry David Meditates on Happiness…

6 Nov

Happiness is no mystery to master comedian Larry David.

Larry David Finds Happiness In Comedy…

*

In this short video clip, Larry analyzes the causes of happiness…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl_sRAim8WE

Larry observes that religious people tend to be happier than their non-religious or atheist/agnostic counterparts.

He thinks that it is because they have the concept of heaven/the afterlife to look forward to.

{This belief in an afterlife reduces or eliminates the fear of death and existential angst. He notes that this is a huge advantage over the non-religious}.

Larry thinks that it is not possible to be happy if you don’t have job satisfaction, sexual satisfaction or a decent level of financial success.

Do you agree or disagree with him?

What about rich people who are unhappy or poor people who are happy?

Can poor people be happy?

What about mental illness?

How does that factor into the equation?

Reflection for today…The Horrors of Social Intercourse -Larry David

13 Apr

“What’s uncomfortable is that people never tell one another the truth, in a way.

The truth is so uncomfortable for people because we’re not used to it.

You can’t have social intercourse by being truthful.

It doesn’t work. That’s why we’re all liars.

But you can on TV, so that’s why some people are uncomfortable.”

Larry David

Larry David says that social events are death…

Larry David relishes in honesty…

In this clip Larry discusses tricky social situations.

He questions social conventions with a fusion of comedy and honesty.

Do you agree with Larry’s thesis of social intercourse?

Do you think that we complicate ourselves too much by following these archaic social conventions?

Is it ironic that Larry David follows and enforces so many of his own rules yet he is a social assassin?

What coping mechanisms do you rely on in awkward social situations?

Do you want to be a “social assassin” like Larry David in Curb?

Leon is just as honest as Larry is…

What do you think would happen if there was more honesty in social interactions?

Would it be a disaster?

Or would it be pure joy and freedom?

Is “I have nothing more to contribute” your new exit line?

Is Larry David your comedic hero?

Reflection for today…Till Death Do Us Part -Larry David

4 Apr

Curb your enthusiasm is one of the most brilliant comedy shows to grace television.

Larry David is the infamous creator of Seinfeld.

In this short clip, he discusses renewing his vows with his wife Cheryl.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtGcQyKfid8

She wants their relationship to continue into the afterlife.

Larry isn’t so sure…

Larry David makes comedy out of awkwardness…

“You mean this is continuing into the afterlife?

I thought this was over at death.

I didn’t know we went into eternity together.

Isn’t that what it said…till death do us part.”

His “plan” for eternity was to be single.

“I just didn’t realize that this relationship carried over after death.

Can we take out the eternity part?”

Hilarious 😉

Larry David: Comedic Genius

Larry doesn’t have much of a vocal filter.

He is painfully honest and equally hilarious.
