Reflection for Today…To Love At All Is To Be Vulnerable -C.S. Lewis‏

22 Jan

“To love at all is to be vulnerable.
Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung
and possibly be broken.

If you want to make sure of keeping it intact,
you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal.
Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries;
avoid all entanglements;
lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.
But in that casket — safe, dark, motionless, airless — it will change.
It will not be broken;
it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.
The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy,
is damnation.
The only place outside of Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.

-C.S. Lewis
The Four Loves

Exotic beauty Sherilyn Fenn looks into your soul…

Can you really be vulnerable in order to love?

Can you really be spiritually naked and intimate with another’s soul?

Peace & Namaste…

    This is one of my favorite quotes from C.S. Lewis…the truth is painful sometimes and Lewis had a way of saying it to help you understand it better!

      William…Thank you so much for your response.
      I have been wanting to read The Four Loves just because of how powerful this quote is.
      I am guessing you have read it?

      This quote reminds me that the same walls that we put up to protect ourselves can eventually become a prison.

      We need to let love seep through the cracks in the wall.

      Vulnerability is needed- otherwise we will end up in a coffin or prison of our selfishness.

      To love is to be vulnerable.
      To love is to risk losing everything…
      To love is to live…
